the sound of summer

nothing says summer like the sound of rain on a tin roof. growing up, i attended a month long camp every summer on the cumberland plateau in tennessee. our cabins only had walls about four feet high and then screens the the roof. the roofs were tin and nothing compared to the sound of the rain above out heads. there were always a couple times each summer when the sound was deafening and you couldn't hear the girl next to you, but other than that it was heavenly. the room above is from a home in uetze, germany. the home is owned by scottish designer glenn garriock and was converted from an aircraft hangar that once belonged to the british army. the ceiling is completely metal so no matter where you are in the house you can hear the relaxing sound of rain. below are a few more photos of the home. you can read more about the house here! it is a lovely idea but it sure would be hard to sleep if it was raining too hard. i think i would be happy with a little screened-in poarch with a metal roof and , of course, a hammock, to listen to the rain.
