...michael asked me to be his forever.
we are spending the day sharing our excitement with family and friends. i'll be back soon with the full story!

another rainy day

i'm not sure what the weather has been thinking lately. it has been all over the place! here's a picture from yesterday in washington square:
look how lovely the east half of the park looks! now, i am just ready for these fences to come down so we can enjoy the whole park!
this morning i woke up to the sound of rain outside my window.
where has all the sunshine gone?! i decided the only thing to do was add some color myself! who said you can't wear two different florals at once?
sorry for the photo quality. i will have to work on my self-timer skills!
also, i finally got around to making the bird's nests (aka haystacks with cadbury eggs on top!) that i had planned for easter. i think they are still in the spring spirit. unfortunately, the chow mein noodles turned out to be a little stale so they are extra crunchy.. oh well, butterscotch makes anything taste good!
now i'm off to make some dinner and get packed for my trip to boston tomorrow..woohoo!

happy easter!

what a delightful easter it has been! the festivities began last night with a little dinner party. all but one of us is from the south, so we just had a ham and all the fixins: green bean casserole,  mashed potatoes, and mac&cheese. so yummy! we also had a bunny cake. unfortunately, we got so wrapped up in the fun that we had eaten the ears off before realizing we hadn't take a good picture!
this morning, michael and i went to an episcopal church near my apartment. the service was beautiful and the music was all very old and traditional (which i love!). afterwards, there was (as usual) much homework to be done. so, while michael worked on biology problem sets, i prepared a little picnic surprise on the fire escape. we had a lovely time watching people coming and going from tompkins square park, listening to music and working on the leftover ham.
oh! this is the lovely early birthday gift i received from michael yesterday! i am in love!

city love

let me start off by saying: i am not a t-shirt person. i am also not a jeans person. i am almost always wearing a dress or a skirt of some kind. but, the other day I was babysitting, i noticed one of the little one's new t shirts:

i think it is just the cutest thing. in general, i love rats. living in the city, rats and pigeons make up the majority of wildlife i see. during the summer, i can usually hear the rats who live in the trash cans across the street darting about, getting into fights which results in lots of squeaking. ok, maybe those guys are not so cute, but growing up i had three pet rats and loved them. they are very clean and smart and never bite! anyway, i fell in love with the little one's shirt so i decided to see if they made any in sizes larger than 2T. look what i found!:

they are made by brooklyn industries. this one is not quite as colorful as the kid's one, but i am still in love and will be getting one asap. they also have a style in the women's section but, on the rare occasions when i do wear t-shirts, i much prefer the men's fit. the buildings in the background of the men's shirt are a nice touch too.

hurry, it's lovely here!

well, it's another rainy day here in new york city. we have had quite enough dreary weather and i am just dying to put away my hunter boots for a day or two. unfortunately, the forecast predicts rain for at least the next ten days.

for now, i am just keeping in mind all the beautiful flowers this rain will bring. only a few have blossomed so far, but i know there are many more on their way!

note: this video makes me smile.
i especially love the time-lapse photography of the flowers.
just delightful!
(i love the video but i definitely prefer audra mcdonald's singing of the song)

backyard dreams

what i miss the most living in nyc is having a backyard. as the weather begins to creep up into the 60's, thoughts of reading in a hammock with the sun shining down through the trees fill my mind. as much as i love the fire escape, it's just not the same.

when i think about moving to a new place, my number one requirement is a backyard. a little place for a garden, a bird house, and room for my (future) bunny to hop around would be just delightful.

for now, i will make do with my window seat and the occasional patch of tulips on my walk home.
